Bert the Barbarian is a side scrolling brawler with a distinct claymation aesthetic. You play as Bert a hulking warrior who stomps through castle defenses smashing enemies with fists and crude weapons. The controls are simple but responsive letting you dodge attacks and unleash combos in real time. Two looping levels form the core experience which repeat until you exhaust your continue counter. The DOS version retains the original demo’s charm while the Windows port adds slightly improved visuals. The game’s quirky handcrafted look stands out instantly evoking 90s TV animation with its textured details and exaggerated movements. Developed as a competition entry for PC Zone it won praise for its clever use of the DIV2 engine despite its brief length. While the endless level cycle limits long term replayability fans of retro arcade mechanics and low poly art often cite it as a cult favorite. Its short runtime and retro difficulty curve make it a brisk challenge for platformer enthusiasts.
