Big Nose the Caveman is a brutal platformer where you play a grumpy prehistoric hunter chasing a flying reptile across four treacherous islands. You collect bones to buy spells and power-ups from in-game shops, but survival hinges on dodging traps, lava, and enemies that kill you in one hit. Progress is punishing, no continuing from your last checkpoint if you run out of lives. Each island ramps up the chaos with deadly pitfalls, water hazards, and hordes of foes. Your only defense is a club that fires limited stones, requiring precise timing to clear paths. Released in 1991 for NES, Amiga, and Atari ST/STE, the game earned a reputation for its relentless difficulty and large level design. Paradise Island to Chaos Island each pack multiple stages, testing patience more than skill. A sequel arrived the next year, but a planned Master System/Game Gear port called Dinobasher was abandoned. Despite its age, the game’s punishing mechanics and primitive charm stick out, with retro fans noting its cult status. Not for the faint of heart, this is platforming with no net below you.
Long, long time ago (but not necessarily in a galaxy far, far away), there was a caveman named Big Nose. One day he went out of his cave and saw a pterodactyl flying around. "That will be my dinner", - thought Big Nose, took out his trusty club and ran after the winged reptile. Naturally, his quest for nutrition became much longer and more dangerous than he had ever imagined...
