Black/Matrix Advanced casts you as Abel an angel bound to a demon master in a world where fallen angels struggle against demonic overlords. Your chosen master vanishes mid-campaign forcing you to navigate turn-based battles and branching story paths to track her down. The game blends tactical grid combat with RPG progression and visual-novel style dialogue choices that shape alliances and outcomes. Each of six playable demon masters offers distinct relationships and narrative threads across 12 scenarios. The Dreamcast upgrade adds 50 minutes of new anime cutscenes and first-person perspective scenes after battles featuring expressive character portraits. Two extra scenarios and a simplified difficulty mode expand accessibility while revised battle maps and art tweaks refine the 1999 release. Though overshadowed by later JRPGs its mix of romance strategy and demonic lore carved a niche for fans of genre hybrids.
