Blizzard of Faith & Revenge is a free, fan-made RPG built around the Touhou Project universe. Set during an oddly snowy summer, it follows Marisa’s Detective Agency as they’re evicted from the Hakurei Shrine and tasked with solving the weather anomaly. The story takes a wild turn when Fujiwara no Mokou joins the quest to recover her stolen “fiery core,” forcing the group into a chaotic mix of exploration, combat, and dialogue-driven shenanigans. Gameplay leans into turn-based battles and over-the-top character interactions typical of the Touhou fandom scene, with a focus on absurd humor and rapid-fire banter. This 2009 indie title stands out for its unapologetic embrace of the franchise’s chaotic energy. While it lacks polish by modern standards, longtime Touhou fans appreciate its cheeky take on established characters and the sheer density of references. The game’s cult following persists in niche circles, though its rough edges and dated presentation make it more of a curiosity than a must-play. Still it offers a window into early Touhou fan-creations that prioritized comedy and camaraderie over technical ambition.
The season is summer, but for some reason snow is still falling. Marisa's Detective Agency (Marisa, Alice, Patchouli, Flandre) has been holed up in the Hakurei Shrine, and Reimu wants them to stop freeloading, so she kicks them out and tells them to go find out why it's still snowing. However, before they leave Mokou & Keine show up and request that the Detectives go find Mokou's "fiery core" that has gone missing. Mokou, who can't fight without her core, decides to go with the girls, and leaves Keine at the shrine with Reimu as a "registration fee".
