Blockade is a two-player arcade game where you race to block your opponent into a dead end. Each player controls a dot that carves a trail across the screen, turning only in 90-degree angles. The goal is simple: force your rival to hit a wall or their own line before they trap you. Matches reset after each loss, with the first to six total wins taking the set. Fast reflexes and smart pathing matter, one misstep and you’re out. Released in 1976, it predates the “snake game” craze by over a decade while establishing many of the genre’s core mechanics. The lack of color and minimal graphics keep the focus squarely on the frantic, tactical back-and-forth. With no power-ups or gimmicks, it’s pure skill and pattern recognition, a surprisingly deep match-of-three that’s held up better than many modern arcade ports.
