You play as Hyakkimaru, a warrior whose body has been partly replaced by magical prosthetics after a brutal encounter with 48 demons. Partnering with the thief Dororo, you battle through a dark fantasy world to reclaim each stolen part. The game blends action-RPG combat with point-and-click puzzle elements, letting you switch between Hyakkimaru and Dororo to solve environmental challenges. Multiplayer co-op allows two players to tackle levels together, with one controlling each character. Based on Osamu Tezuka's classic manga, the game leans into its source material's gothic aesthetic and moral ambiguity. Though largely forgotten outside Japan, it has a small but vocal cult following. Early reviews praised its atmospheric design and creative use of dual protagonists, though technical limitations on the PS2 occasionally hindered pacing. The 2004 release remains a niche entry in the Tezuka adaptation canon, with its stark art style and emphasis on teamwork standing out among mid-2000s adventure titles.
It focuses on a hero named Hyakkimaru , who has had much of his body stolen by forty-eight fiends and has prosthetic replacements. Along with his ally, the thief Dororo, Hyakkimaru must defeat all forty-eight fiends.
