About

Blue Lightning casts you as a rookie pilot in a UN squadron battling a corrupt general’s global crime empire. You fly a mix of military aircraft across missions designed to disrupt Drako’s operations, blending straightforward shooting with basic flight mechanics. The game leans into arcade-style action over deep simulation, with objectives focused on dogfighting and ground attacks. It runs on Windows PCs and Atari’s 32-bit consoles, though its 1995 release coincided with a shaky market for Jaguar hardware. The game split critics. Its synth-heavy soundtrack and colorful visuals earned praise, but controls and frame rates drew complaints. Some saw it as a lackluster sequel to the 1989 Lynx original while others compared it unfavorably to contemporary shooters like After Burner. As a Jaguar CD launch title, it faced high expectations but underperformed commercially. Players still note its energetic missions and variety of aircraft, even if the technical execution feels dated by modern standards.
