About

Bomberman '94 is a turn-based puzzle brawler where you lay bombs to outwit enemies and blast paths through grid-based arenas. Developed by Hudson Soft in 1993, it mixes single-player campaigns against robotic foes with competitive multiplayer matches that let you blow up friends in local splitscreen. The core loop revolves around placing bombs, dodging explosions, and using environment-altering items like arrow tiles that redirect blasts. Tag-team modes let two players switch turns mid-match, adding layers to strategy. The story involves fixing a shattered planet by reclaiming magical relics, but the real draw is the tight, explosive gameplay. This version introduced the Roodi system, letting players ride animal companions with unique skills like firebreathing or shield deployment. The Battle Game mode expanded to ten stages filled with traps and power-ups, while tag-team rules kept matches chaotic and teamplay essential. As the last HuCard title Hudson Soft released for the PC Engine, it’s a time-capsule entry in the Bomberman lineage. Modern re-releases on Wii U and PS3 Virtual Console let new players experience the 16-bit-era tactics that kept fans coming back for decades.

Storyline

The inhabitants of Planet Bomber lived in peace, protected by five spirits, until the evil Buglear and his Robot Army invaded. The Spirit Pictures, the source of the spirits' magical power, were destroyed, splitting Planet Bomber into five pieces. Bomberman arrives to restore the Spirit Pictures and reassemble Planet Bomber.
