Bomberman World released in 1998 as an arcade game for PC and PlayStation. You play as Bomberman placing bombs to clear enemies and break obstacles while collecting all the crystals on the screen. Each level ends with a door that opens after you gather every crystal. The fourth level of each world introduces a Dark Force Bomber followed by a boss tied to the world’s theme. These bosses require timed attacks and strategy to beat. The battle armor you earn after defeating a Dark Force Bomber gives temporary power-ups for the next fight but disappears when you move to a new world. This forces players to maximize each armor’s use during boss battles. With single player and multiplayer modes, the game balances puzzle-like level design with action. Its 1998 release brought competitive local play to homes, and retro fans still praise its straightforward mechanics and varied boss encounters.
