Borderline is a shoot-'em-up with a split-screen layout from Compile. You take control of a red jeep advancing through terrain while firing at enemy structures. The game alternates between driving through obstacles and shooting at refineries. Resource management adds a light strategy layer as you balance fuel and ammo. The dual-screen format splits the action between your jeep and the battlefield ahead. The game was later ported to Sega’s SG-1000 in 1983 and included in the Sega Ages 2500 series in Japan. Its second level was repurposed for the Atari 2600 title Thunderground, swapping jeeps for tanks. With its simple mechanics and relic status as an early 80s arcade oddity, Borderline offers a stripped-down challenge for fans of retro shooters.
