Boxer's Road is a boxing management and combat hybrid from 1995 that lets you train, customize, and control your own pugilist. You direct your fighter’s career through a series of matches using a range of offensive moves and defensive maneuvers. The single-player mode focuses on climbing the ranks while balancing rest and training between fights. Multiplayer options include split-screen exhibition bouts where you and a friend can pit your saved boxers against each other. Matches can be saved as replays for later viewing. The game stands out for its early implementation of split-screen combat and memory card integration, allowing players to store and share custom characters. While its graphics and AI feel dated by modern standards, its straightforward mechanics and local multiplayer made it a niche favorite among PlayStation 1 owners. A sequel followed in 1996 but never matched the original’s cult following.
You also directly control your boxer during fights, and you have a sizable variety of different punches and other techniques. In addition to following your own career, you can also play an exhibition match against a friend's boxer on their own memory card. You can also save replays of your matches.
