About

Bram Stoker's Dracula from Psygnosis is a side-scrolling action game that mixes platforming and combat. On the Sega CD you play as Jonathan Harker moving through seven levels inspired by the 1992 movie. Each stage uses digitized backgrounds and actors with pre recorded voice clips before levels. Gameplay alternates between running jumping and fighting enemies in a blend of platform challenges and hand to hand combat. This version stands out for its use of full motion video clips directly lifted from the film. The digitized visuals and FMV create a distinct 90s aesthetic even if the controls feel dated. With its dated but ambitious blend of movie tie in media and action gameplay it remains a curious artifact of early 90s CD based gaming. Released late in 1993 it capitalized on the format's novelty but struggled to match the film's impact.
