Breeder is a robot combat simulator set in a future where civilizations battle mechanized gladiators. You build and customize war machines by swapping parts like weapons, armor, and movement systems. Each match is a direct deathmatch in an arena where you pilot your robot or let it fight automatically. The goal is to tweak your design between fights to outlast seven specialized robot types. The game stands out for its early focus on mechanical customization, letting you edit components from the start. With its 1986 release on the Family Computer Disk System, it predates many rivals in the genre by a decade.
