Brides of Dracula pits two players against each other in a chaotic battle of wits and speed. One controls Van Helsing, gathering 13 tools to defeat Dracula while avoiding ghouls and other threats. The other takes on Dracula’s role, hunting villagers to turn into brides and fill his crypt. The Amiga’s split-screen format keeps both sides active at once, with overlapping objectives that force constant strategy shifts. Each character faces unique dangers, Van Helsing dodges cursed priests while Dracula evades villagers armed with holy symbols. Health bars and collected items track progress as the clock ticks down. The game’s sharp contrast between roles creates intense back-and-forth play. Van Helsing must balance tool collection with defense against Dracula’s advances, while Dracula races to complete his brides before time runs out. Released in 1992, it’s a rare multiplayer title for the Amiga that holds up for its tight mechanics and asymmetric design. Split-screen action remains smooth despite the system’s limitations, and the village and cemetery settings offer enough variety to keep matches fresh. Players with a taste for competitive arcade action might find it lurking in retro archives, its resource management and direct confrontation still feel brisk.
