About

Brigandine: Grand Edition is a turn-based strategy RPG where you build armies, conquer territories, and outmaneuver opponents in grid-based battles. Units clash using a Rock-Paper-Scissors system: red beats green, green beats blue, and blue beats red. White and black units remain deadlocked unless one breaks the stalemate. The goal is to take over a capital within 13 turns or secure a victory by holding a castle. Multiplayer lets up to six players command their own nations, turning the war into a chaotic free-for-all. Monsters can now equip gear, and new classes, items, and knights add layers to your tactical choices. Released in 2000, this remake streamlines the original with faster 2D battle animations and replaces 3D sequences with anime cutscenes. Voice actors like Soichiro Hoshi and Mitsuaki Madono bring depth to the tale of a rebel general’s rise and the fractured continent he leaves behind. The Esgares Empire becomes a playable faction with its own story beats, and the final boss rush kicks in only after you’ve carved out dominance. Available on PlayStation, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Portable, it’s a leaner, sharper take on a cult strategy classic.

Storyline

The game begins with a scene showing Zemeckis, commander of the army of the Kingdom of Almekia, receiving a visit from a Rune Knight called Cador, who wields the title of "Death Knight". Zemeckis is convinced that he is being falsely accused of treason, and decides to rebel against the King of Almekia, Henguist. Zemeckis' rebellion is joined by other Rune Knights, and they successfully take over the nation of Almekia, renaming it the Esgares Empire. King Henguist dies at the hands of Cador, and the son of the King, Prince Lance, flees to the nearby Kingdom of Padstow with the Rune Knights who stayed loyal to the deceased king. These events are the trigger for the war between the nations of Forsena.
