Bug Blasters: The Exterminators is an unreleased Sega CD shooter from Digital Pictures that ran full motion video cutscenes alongside its gameplay. Players take control of a squad defending Earth against a massive insect invasion on rails. The action moves forward automatically while you aim and fire at swarms of bugs. This prototype appeared at Summer CES in 1994 before the project got cancelled by Sony Imagesoft. The game eventually surfaced as a completed prototype that fans could play years later. Good Deal Games sold unofficial copies commercially starting in 2001. It stands out because you get to see a finished FMV title that never made it to store shelves during the original run. The visual style relies heavily on live action footage mixed with sprite based enemies. Many retro collectors consider this one of the most interesting lost titles from the era. Playing it feels like getting a peek behind the curtain at a cancelled project that actually worked.
