Builderland: The Story of Melba casts you as a laid-back guitarist forced to rescue his kidnapped girlfriend through a series of side-scrolling puzzle stages. Melba himself moves automatically forward most of the time leaving you to arrange collectible objects like platforms boxes and weapons to guide him safely. Each level requires careful placement to avoid hazards and enemies though you do take direct control during boss fights by flinging items to defeat foes. The gameplay loops around trial and error problem solving with occasional bursts of action. Released in 1991 this quirky title blends puzzle mechanics with arcade moments across Amiga Atari ST and Turbografx-16 platforms. While often compared to Lemmings it carves its own niche with a simpler visual style and more hands-on combat sections. The story is told through wordless intro scenes that set up a lighthearted narrative without overcomplicating things. With 80 levels to tackle and a retro charm that holds up it appeals to fans of old-school brain teasers looking for something a little different.
