Bumpy is a platformer that turns physics into puzzles. Maneuver a head-shaped character by choosing directions and bounce height to cross a grid of springy platforms. Each level requires collecting all items to unlock the exit, with layouts designed to test timing and foresight. Some surfaces crumble on touch, while others like fiery hazards demand you gather protective drops first. The challenge lies in balancing speed and caution across shifting terrain. The game’s clever twist on platforming mechanics, like destructible paths and lethal obstacles, makes each level a mini-strategy test. Though little-known today, its 1989 DOS original and later ports to systems like the Amstrad CPC and ZX Spectrum earned a dedicated audience. The 16-bit remake Pop-Up refined its ideas, but Bumpy’s tight controls and escalating difficulty continue to impress retro fans. Small, sharp, and surprisingly deep, it’s a forgotten example of how few elements can create lasting challenge.
