Burning Soldier is a fast paced space combat game where you control a futuristic fighter jet in 3D dogfights. As a member of Earth Defense Force you lock onto enemy ships and blast through procedurally generated missions. The flight path handles itself so you can concentrate on targeting and dodging. Missions unfold in tight corridors of stars and debris with explosions packing visceral punch. Cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes let you team up or clash with others. Released in 1994 this title pushed hardware limits with its era defining polygon count and dynamic lighting. Over 40 thousand pre rendered graphics filled screens with chaotic energy as ships twisted and shattered. The cockpit view puts you directly in the chaos with sound design that ramps tension during firefights. While dated by today’s standards it holds a cult following for its raw intensity and ahead of its time visuals. Played on PC and 3DO platforms it remains a relic of early 90s arcade style action.
