"If you’re looking for a unique multiplayer arena brawler ‘Black & White Bushido’ will deliver. It offers a unique enough take on the genre to set itself apart. With its simple controls and minimalist style, it is easy to pick up and enjoy. My only real concern is the lackluster single player (which to be fair really wasn’t their focus) and lack of content for the console release. With a console release date of May 17th and at a 10.00 price tag, You’ll more than likely get your money’s worth if you decide to pick it up."

Bushido Blade drops you into brutal sword fights set in a modern Japan inspired by samurai legend. Navigate 3D arenas from crumbling castles to urban zones while clashing with opponents in tight one-on-one duels. Each match emphasizes precise timing and positioning, a single well-placed strike can end the fight. Choose from a roster of assassins and fight through scenarios where you battle former allies to escape a rogue dojo. The single-player campaign shifts based on your character selection while local multiplayer lets friends join for split-screen brawls. The game’s no-nonsense combat stood out even in 1997 for prioritizing skill over flashy moves. Its focus on lethal simplicity and replayable story paths made it a cult hit among fans of grounded action. Though originally a PlayStation title, its inclusion on later platforms lets new players experience the raw, no-holds-barred swordplay that earned it a dedicated following.
Despite characters, themes and weapons similar to samurai cinema set in Feudal Japan, Bushido Blade takes place during the modern era (this is shown, for example, when the player reaches a helicopter landing pad phase set in a large city). A fictional 500-year-old dojo known as Meikyokan lies within this region, and teaches the disciplines of the master Narukagami Shinto. A society of assassins known as Kage ("Shadow") also resides within the dojo. Once led by the honorable swordsman Utsusemi, he lost his position to Hanzaki, another skilled member of the dojo, in a fierce battle. Hanzaki gained respect as the Kage leader, until he discovered a cursed sword known as Yugiri. He began to change, disregarding the group's honor and the traditions held by its students. One day, a Kage member escapes the confines of the dojo with its secrets. Several other members of the society, under penalty of death, are sent to dispatch the defector, only catching up to him (or her) within the ruins of the surrounding Yin and Yang Labyrinth Castle. In single player mode the players take on the role of the escaped assassin (independent of whatever character they choose), fighting their way out by killing their comrades one by one. Elements of the game story differ with each character selected.
