This chess game adds a hardware hack to the Odyssey 2 console. The C7010 module connects via a dummy cartridge and includes extra memory to handle the game's processing demands. Players choose white or black before each match which flips the board's side numbering from 1 to 8. All moves must be entered manually using algebraic notation through the keyboard. Six difficulty settings adjust how far ahead the computer calculates moves from one to six turns. The interface shows the full board between input steps but requires precise coordinate entry for piece movement. The game's most notable trait is its technical workaround for system limitations. By bundling additional hardware in the cartridge itself it becomes one of the few dedicated chess titles for the platform. Players used to physical board notation will appreciate the strict coordinate system over button-based movement. With six difficulty tiers and proper chess mechanics this remains a niche title for retro enthusiasts. Released in late 1982 it sits among the earliest attempts to bring strategic board games to home consoles.
