About Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 arrived on November 10, 2009 as the sixth main entry in the franchise. Infinity Ward developed this title while Activision handled publishing duties. It launched on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, and Mac systems. The story picks up immediately after the events of the previous game where Ultranationalists took over Russia. Vladimir Makarov leads a terror campaign that spans five years before the player reengages with Task Force 141. You play as soldiers trying to stop this global threat across various locations. The game focuses on military combat, tactical missions, and high-stakes action sequences that define the series.

Gameplay

You navigate through linear levels using standard console or keyboard controls. Sessions involve moving from cover to cover while engaging enemy infantry. You can switch between rifles, shotguns, and sniper weapons depending on the situation. The campaign features set pieces like a hijacked airliner crash and an underground subway chase. Multiplayer modes include Team Deathmatch and Search and Destroy where you earn experience points for kills. Co-op missions let two players tackle specific objectives together or play split screen locally. You unlock attachments for guns and complete challenges to gain new perks. A typical session involves grinding for weapons to improve your loadout before jumping into a match.

What Players Think

Players on PlayPile rate this game an 83.4 out of 100 based on 1,499 IGDB ratings. The community vibe leans heavily toward chaotic and intense with four votes for chaos and two for intensity. Hardcore sentiment also holds one vote among the group. Most players find the average playtime sufficient to see everything without getting bored. You can earn 50 achievements total, but only 29.5% of users unlock them on average. The rarest task is Leave No Stone Unturned which only 3.50 percent of the player base has completed. Critic reviews generally align with these high scores, noting the game's technical prowess and map variety.

PlayPile's Take

This title remains a solid shooter choice if you can find it for around $19.99 at Green Man Gaming. It appeals to players who enjoy fast-paced gunfights and narrative-driven campaigns. The achievement system offers plenty of hurdles for completionists willing to hunt down that elusive 3.5 percent rate. Do not expect deep RPG elements or open world exploration here. The multiplayer is where the real longevity lies for most people. Finish the campaign, grind some matches, and grab the rare trophy if you have the patience to do so.

Storyline

Despite the efforts of the U.S. Marine Corps and British Special Air Service in the previous game, the Ultranationalists seize control of Russia, and declare Imran Zakhaev a hero and martyr, erecting a statue of him in the heart of Red Square. This strains diplomatic relations with the United States. Meanwhile, Vladimir Makarov, one of Zakhaev's former lieutenants, begins a campaign of revenge for his death, by committing acts of terrorism over the course of five years
