Calluna lets you live four chapters in the life of Ole Bull a 19th century Norwegian violinist and composer. Take control in first person as a young prodigy an old legend a wealthy showman and a struggling artist. Each story plays out in Bergen Paris and Cairo with streets to wander interactive objects to examine and side quests tied to Bull’s real life achievements. The gameplay leans into exploration over action with collectibles hidden throughout the environments and townspeople offering small tasks that reflect historical moments from his career. The game’s strongest hook is its focus on a specific historical figure without leaning into biopic seriousness. The semi open world design lets you lose time wandering markets or chatting with NPCs while the four distinct perspectives offer a layered look at Bull’s motivations. Though it lacks major mechanics or production polish Calluna earned a 72 on Metacritic with critics praising its charm and educational touches. A light pick for history buffs or fans of character driven adventures.
Ole Bull was a Norwegian violinist and composer and one of the greatest performing artists of the 19th century. Bull was caught up in a rising tide of Norwegian romantic nationalism and acclaimed the idea of Norway as a sovereign state, separated from Sweden. He was a child prodigy, and he gave his public debut as a soloist at age nine. He is believed to have composed more than 70 works, but only about ten are known today. Ole Bull became incredibly famous and made a huge fortune. Ole was inspired by the beautiful Norwegian scenery and drawn towards the highest mountains. He was also an entrepreneur and tried to establish a colony in Pennsylvania, US, in 1852. Calluna was Ole Bull’s favorite flower.
