Candelabra Estoscerro is a role-playing game built for the Nintendo Entertainment System that tasks three heroes with navigating a labyrinthine plateau to recover a legendary artifact. Players guide a team of seasoned adventurers through procedurally generated mazes filled with enemies and traps. Combat and exploration happen in real time with a focus on precise movement and timing. The game requires two NES controllers, one for directional input and another for actions, or a custom Virtual Boy controller setup. This hardware quirk is central to the experience but adds a layer of complexity that will challenge even experienced players. The dual-controller design stands out as both a hurdle and a defining trait. A tutorial explains the setup but building or adapting hardware is part of the package. The story ties together previous games in the series with a straightforward quest to retrieve a peace-bringing relic. While the pixelated visuals and maze navigation may feel dated to some, the game has a cult following for its bold hardware experimentation. Players report spending hours mapping paths and refining coordination between controllers. The manual and online guides help but mastering the control scheme is a trial in itself.
King Zardrik has just inherited the throne. All of his research about the fabled Candelabra, which is said to have the power to bring peace to the once warring kingdoms, tells him that it is most likely located at Estoscerro, an infamous plateau that is as deadly to enter as it is mysterious. After Han, Hubs and Hekl completed their own adventures and destroyed The Order of the Talon, the king called on each of the them to go to Estoscerro together, in search of this supposedly powerful item, since the party of knights he sent at an earlier time never returned. Will the trio find the Candelabra? What kind of evil lurks in the shadows of Estoscerro? Take command of all three heroes, and set forth on this bold mission to bring peace to the land!
