About

Caribbean Disaster is a strategy game with point-and-click mechanics that mixes political maneuvering and absurd military tactics. You take charge of a tropical island's president, balancing budgets, managing ministers, and using underhanded methods to stay in power. The goal is to outmaneuver rivals through propaganda, arrests, and strategic attacks with tanks, zeppelins, or submarines. Gameplay shifts between governance and chaotic warfare, with each decision affecting your grip on leadership. The interface lets you zoom between island locations and track resources while navigating the eccentricities of bureaucratic survival. The game stands out for its darkly humorous take on governance, blending bureaucratic satire with tactics. Players appreciate the quirky scenarios like bribing citizens or weaponizing DJs for misinformation. While its 1995 DOS/Amiga roots show, the unorthodox approach to strategy earned a cult following. With single-player campaigns and multiplayer modes, it offers 20 hours of chaotic fun for those into niche political antics. The mix of resource management and over-the-top attacks makes it a memorable oddity in the genre.

Storyline

Somewhere in the ocean is a little island, inhabited by a President and three ministers of the air force, navy, and army. The island also has ten other resident citizens. Every morning the President receives money from the American and Russian embassies, which can be given to the ministers or spent to improve the President’s residence in the Arctic. When two of the three ministers vote against the President, there is a vote of non-confidence and an election happens. Now the player has to convince the population of their leadership abilities, using the unique skills of special contacts: the chief of the Secret Police, for example, arrests political enemies (the ministers), the radio disc jockey spreads false news and the priest sells weapons. Three types of weapons also enter into these negotiations - tanks, zeppelins and submarines, one fitting each of the Defense ministries. After every round the player can attack their political enemies in a very military fashion.
