Carnivores drops you into a 2190 corporate hunting sim where you track and kill dinosaurs for points and trophies. Starting as a rookie, you pick a location, weapon, and target then navigate environments like jungles and deserts. Each kill boosts your score and unlocks new areas and gear but dying to a dinosaur wipes your progress for that run. The system rewards careful planning, choosing accessories and tranquilizer shots adds risk versus reward, while the tiered progression pushes you from basic shots to sniper rifles as you hunt bigger prey. The game stands out for its structured challenge and escalating stakes. Early levels let you practice on docile creatures before tackling apex predators like T. rex. Six distinct maps with shifting terrain and hidden dangers keep the pacing tight. Though dated by today’s standards, its blend of strategy and action earned it a cult following. The 1998 release predated modern hunting sim trends but still feels methodical and satisfying for fans of progression-driven gameplay.
Carnivores is set in the year 2190. During a routine space exploration mission, a science vessel known as the FMM UV discovered a planet with a climate suitable to sustain human life. The new planet was code-named FMM UV-32. During the initial scouting expedition, the planet was declared inhospitable for colonization because of its unstable terrain and large population of dinosaurs and other prehistoric reptiles. News articles about the planet led to an Earth corporation purchasing the rights to the planet and creating DinoHunt Corporation. The company allowed for paying customers to hunt dinosaurs on their planet.
