Cauldron is a 1985 side-scrolling action game where you play a witch battling Halloween-themed foes to gather magical ingredients. Switch between flying on a broomstick in open skies and dodging hazards in underground caves. Fire projectiles to defeat pumpkins, ghosts, and sharks while avoiding collisions that drain your magic meter. Lose all your lives and it’s game over. Each level requires finding four colored keys to unlock new areas, then collecting six ingredients to brew a spell that finishes the final boss. The game stands out for its blend of shooting and platforming mechanics, which were uncommon for the era. Its punishing difficulty from limited retries and a fragile magic meter adds tension. Though built for retro platforms like the C64 and ZX Spectrum, it earned a cult following for tight controls and varied enemy encounters.
