Chef is an old-school arcade game where you play a restaurant cook trying to keep up with orders. Your goal is to flip dishes onto plates while avoiding obstacles like flying ingredients and angry customers. The challenge comes from tight timing and quick reflexes as the pace ramps up. Simple controls and a straightforward objective make it easy to pick up but harder to master. Despite its age, Chef holds up for its raw, no-frills action. It’s one of the earliest examples of Nintendo’s focus on pick-up-and-play fun, later seen in titles like Mario. The game’s 1981 release date puts it in the same era as Donkey Kong, and it shares that same frantic energy. Now available on modern platforms through the DSi Virtual Console, it’s a quick blast from the past for retro fans. Its tiny screen and physical Game & Watch hardware original made it a portable challenge, something that still works surprisingly well translated to digital.
