About

China Warrior is a retro 2D arcade fighter where you punch, kick, and dodge through a series of increasingly goofy villains. You play a nameless hero sent to rescue a kung fu province from Boss Kara, who’s somehow managed to corral a army of ridiculous henchmen. Each stage pits you against a new antagonist with a silly specialty, think fire-spitting or chain-wielding, before the final showdown with Kara. A mid-game power-up gives your character a temporary boost, but it’s the sheer absurdity of the foes that keeps things rolling. The game leans fully into 80s camp, with over-the-top animations and dialogue that feels like a rejected kung fu movie script. It’s simple but satisfying, offering a quick chain of fights with a surprising amount of personality for a 1987 release. While the platforming sections feel tacked on, the single-player mode holds up as a curiously charming challenge. Some players credit it with inspiring late-night binges on the TurboGrafx-16, though the real legacy might be proving you don’t need a plot to make a punchy beat-em-up.
