Chocobo Racing 3D started as a project from Square Enix and developer h.a.n.d. Inc. for the Nintendo 3DS. It was announced back in 2010 at E3 with vague details about whether it would be a new title or a remake of the original Chocobo Racing. Players expected to see their favorite winged horses compete in karts, but the project never made it past early development stages. The game vanished from public view after being shelved by the publisher. This cancellation remains one of those notable "what ifs" for fans of the franchise. Takashi Tokita confirmed in late 2013 that the title was officially dead, leaving no gameplay footage or reviews to judge.
