City Avenger is a third-person VR shooter from Chesstar Studios that lets you blast through gangs and outlaws in a destructible urban landscape. You use a VR headset to look around and a gamepad to control your character, swapping between rifles, shotguns, and heavy artillery. The game mixes close combat with vehicle sections where you might drive a tank or helicopter. A bullet-time feature lets you take out crowds of enemies while physics-based explosions let you destroy cars and buildings. The biggest draw is the chaotic destruction. Every object from bystander cars to skyscrapers can be blown to bits. While the 2017 release shows its age compared to newer VR titles, fans of over-the-top action might enjoy the freedom to experiment with weapons and environments. Available on PS4 and PC since May 2017.
