Claymates casts you as Clayton, a kid transformed into malleable clay after his dad’s animal-serum invention goes sideways. The game mashes platforming with pinball mechanics as you bounce through levels, morphing your clay body to solve puzzles and dodge traps. Each stage feels like a Rube Goldberg machine, requiring precise bounces and shape shifts to reach the exit. The controls are tight for a 90s SNES title, though the learning curve can be steep for modern players. The game’s creativity in blending genres stands out, even if it’s largely forgotten today. Its whimsical art style and unpredictable level design earned a cult following, with retro players praising its ingenuity. While not a commercial hit, Claymates remains a quirky artifact of early ’90s experimentation. Its mix of physics-based puzzles and fast-paced action holds up better than most of its era.
Clayton's father has developed a serum to turn humans into animals. However, an evil shaman desires this serum, and when he is denied ownership of it, he kidnaps Clayton's father and turns Clayton into a ball of clay. It's up to the unlikely hero to rescue his father, the serum, and the world!
