About

Climber is a simple yet tricky platformer from Nintendo released in 1986 for the Game & Watch line. You play as a child navigating Block Mountain by leaping across shifting platforms and dodging obstacles. Enemies include the Blockmen, who transform into platforms when they hit gaps, Eyerom birds that block your path, and thorny plants that complicate your climb. Each of the five levels ends with a mini-game where you time jumps to catch a bonus bird or battle a dragon with a floating sword. The challenge comes from unpredictable platform movement and tight jump windows that demand quick reflexes. The game’s standout features are its compact design and replay value. Climber never launched in Japan, and the New Wide Screen version is particularly rare, only around 250,000 were made. Though not officially linked to the Ice Climber NES game, the visual style and gameplay share some similarities. The timing-based bonus rounds add variety, and the lack of a save system pushes players to master each level through repeated attempts. Its simplicity and difficulty keep it memorable for collectors and those who enjoy old-school arcade precision.
