About

Clystron is a 1991 adventure platformer where you pilot a mechanical cyborg on a timed scavenger hunt. Your goal is to collect eight machine parts in sequence, each unlocking a new area via transporter. The catch is a strict 15-minute countdown and wonky controls, shooting and jumping only work while moving, and you keep walking in one direction until you press down on the joystick. This creates a clunky but frantic rhythm as you dodge hazards and navigate tight spaces. The Commodore 64 version earned praise for its music and graphics, which stood out in 1991. Its odd control scheme remains a talking point, dividing players between frustrating and charming. While not a genre-defining title, Clystron holds a niche reputation for its retro aesthetic and relentless pace. Older players might recognize it as a C64 curiosity, and its cult following hints at a dedicated but small fanbase.
