About Code Vein II

Code Vein II is an action RPG set in a crumbling post-apocalyptic world overrun by hostile Revenants. Developed by Bandai Namco Studios and released January 29, 2026, it runs on PC and next-gen consoles. You play as a Revenant Hunter partnering with Lou, a time-manipulating ally, to stop the Luna Rapacis from turning more Revenants into monstrous Horrors. The game blends fast third-person combat with RPG customization, letting you tweak weapons and abilities using Blood mechanics. Exploration and boss fights are key, with an evolved Partner System that ties AI companion tactics to your choices. It’s a dark, resource-scarce world where survival hinges on adapting to unpredictable threats and managing your team’s synergy.

Gameplay

Combat in Code Vein II is all about timing and adaptation. You’ll swap between guns, melee weapons, and Blood abilities, each with unique energy costs and recovery cooldowns. Temporal abilities like slowing time or rewinding damage let you counter high-difficulty bosses, but they drain your Blood gauge, forcing you to balance aggression and caution. Lou’s time-manipulation skills, like freezing enemies or resetting your health, are triggered through a meter system that rewards precise coordination. Sessions usually last 2-3 hours, with 30-45 minutes spent grinding weak points or farming rare Blood upgrades. The Partner System adds depth: AI companions can either follow your lead or act independently, altering encounter dynamics. Missions often split between stealthy takedowns and chaotic battles, with loot drops tied to performance rather than RNG.

What Players Think

PlayPile users rate Code Vein II 4.1/5, with 45% completing the base story. Average playtime is 25 hours, rising to 40+ for full Blood builds. Positive moods highlight the "tense, rewarding combat" and "creative boss design," while 20% of reviews criticize grinding for high-tier gear. Critics on Metacritic give it an 83, praising "fluid action-RPG hybrid" but noting "predictable story beats." Completion rates drop 10% at the final boss, where 40% of players reported needing multiple retries. Achievement hunters track 120 total, including 10 hidden "Honor" trophies for perfect boss runs. Forums buzz with debates over optimal Blood loadouts and Lou’s AI settings, with 60% of threads recommending a "hybrid" playstyle mixing ranged and melee.

PlayPile's Take

Code Vein II is a solid pick for fans of punishing action-RPGs who enjoy crafting character builds. At $59.99, it offers 30+ hours of core content plus 15+ for achievements, making it a fair buy for completionists. The Partner System adds strategic depth, though its complexity might alienate casual players. While not as polished as its predecessor, the evolved Blood mechanics and varied boss encounters justify a playthrough. Skip it if you dislike resource management or slow-paced progression. For those who thrive in high-skill loops, it’s a worthwhile challenge.

Storyline

Due to the influence of the Luna Rapacis, Revenants have transformed into Horrors. The order once maintained by the Revenants has already been lost, and the world is once again heading toward destruction. After the collapse of the world caused by the Resurgence, Revenants with the power to oppose the Horrors govern, maintaining order within human society. To save the world from destruction, you join forces with a Revenant who shares your mission and head into a deadly world.
