About

Collage is a 2004 visual novel that follows three characters whose lives intertwine through overlapping narratives. Each protagonist, an office worker seeking redemption, a man grappling with unexpected fatherhood, and a woman navigating unrequited feelings, tells their side of the story in distinct chapters. Players piece together the full picture by switching between perspectives, uncovering how their decisions ripple across one another’s lives. The narrative unfolds through static art, minimal text, and a focus on quiet character moments over dramatic twists. What sets Collage apart is its understated approach to emotional storytelling. Without grand set pieces or action sequences, the game leans into mundane yet resonant details, a tense conversation, a missed opportunity, a fragile new relationship, to build a layered portrait of human connection. Though largely overlooked in the West, it holds a cult following among visual novel enthusiasts who praise its mature themes and subtle direction. At just a few hours long, it’s a concise but impactful experience that lingers.

Storyline

Yuuko Sasaki is an office worker who is fed up with her insufferable boss. After exposing her boss’ embezzlement of near $10,000, she quits her job and encounters an old high school classmate. Through her classmate, she starts working on a project which needs the talent of Yuichi Yoshimura. Yuichi recently discovered his high school girlfriend died and left behind a six-year-old child – his child. While Yuichi struggles with his new role as father and Yuuko takes on her new job, Miki Nisino eases her way into the two’s lives while trying to get Yuichi to notice her. A love triangle ensues.
