ColorBlend FX: Desaturation is a color-driven puzzle-platformer with metroidvania elements. You control a Splatian navigating a vibrant world stripped of color by a shadowy force. Combat involves squashing foes with physics-based jumps and splat attacks. Puzzles require manipulating light and color to unlock paths, while platforming sections demand precise timing over paint-puddled hazards. Progression relies on unlocking new abilities to revisit areas and uncover secrets tied to the world’s fractured hues. The game leans into its visual theme with puzzles that hinge on color interactions. A shifting art style contrasts bright, fluid Splatian zones with desaturated, angular enemy territories. The story’s moral ambiguity hints at twists, early hints suggest Lord Ashen’s motives might not be purely malicious. With a runtime of 8, 10 hours, it offers modest but polished challenge for fans of puzzle-focused exploration. Released in April 2024, it runs smoothly on mid-tier PCs.
The game is about two creature races, the Splatians and the Ansuz-Ingwaz clan and their conflict about the mythical Rainbow Powder. They both believe that it belongs to them, they both do everything to study this substance, but the truth is that only Splatians can benefit from its true magic properties. Though, Lord Ashen is named such for a reason and his pure evilness will turn an obstacle for the good will of Splatians. Or maybe not?
