Computer War pits you against a digital arms race with two distinct challenges. First you solve a grid-based puzzle by rotating blocks to match a target pattern, unlocking missile silos once you succeed. After the enemy launches their own nukes you switch to real time interception, using a crosshair to track targets and maneuver fighter jets to destroy incoming warheads. The first half requires careful spatial reasoning while the second demands quick reflexes. The split-screen design keeps tension high even by 1983 standards. With its December 1983 release it became one of the earliest arcade-style titles to merge puzzle and action gameplay. Available on budget systems like the VIC-20 and TI-99 it offered dual challenges that still feel surprisingly balanced for retro hardware. The two-part structure ensures no two playthroughs match exactly.
