About Construction Simulator

Construction Simulator is a strategy simulator about managing construction projects using a massive array of real-world machinery. Developed by weltenbauer and published by astragon, it launched in September 2022 for PC and consoles. The game tasks you with building roads, renovating cities, and developing infrastructure across two distinct maps: a picturesque European town and a large American city. With over 70 licensed machines from brands like Caterpillar, CASE, and DAF, the focus is on operating vehicles efficiently to complete tasks. The single-player campaign spans two regions, each with unique challenges like renewable energy projects or urban revitalization. It’s a hands-on sim for players who enjoy planning logistics and mastering complex equipment.

Gameplay

Each session revolves around selecting the right machines, bulldozers, excavators, cranes, for specific tasks. You’ll clear land, lay asphalt, and install infrastructure while managing fuel, time, and traffic. Campaigns start with smaller projects, teaching controls before escalating to citywide renovations. Multiplayer and co-op modes let teams tackle jobs collaboratively, splitting tasks like grading, paving, or delivery. The controls are realistic; steering a crane takes practice, and misjudging a dump truck’s turning radius can block traffic. Missions often include hidden efficiency metrics, rewarding speed and resourcefulness. Between jobs, you upgrade equipment or unlock new vehicles to handle bigger contracts. The grind of completing repetitive tasks is balanced by the satisfaction of transforming a muddy field into a functional road.

What Players Think

On PlayPile, the game holds a 78% completion rate among players who average 25 hours of playtime. Community moods are split: 60% label it “satisfying,” while 30% find it “tedious.” Reviews highlight the depth of machinery simulation but note the repetitive campaign structure. One user wrote, “The variety of vehicles keeps it fresh, but the same-old road-building gets repetitive.” Twitch ranks it #78 in current popularity, suggesting steady but niche interest. Achievement data shows 55% of players unlock the “Master Builder” title for completing all European maps. Critics praise the attention to licensed machinery but criticize the lack of creative freedom. For $39.99, most agree it’s a solid buy for sim fans who don’t mind methodical pacing.

PlayPile's Take

This is a niche pick for simulation enthusiasts who enjoy mechanical detail and methodical planning. It excels in vehicle variety and realistic controls but struggles to maintain long-term engagement due to repetitive campaign tasks. At under $40, the price matches the content, a mix of satisfying mechanics and limited replayability. Skip if you prefer fast-paced action or open-ended creativity. For those who find joy in mastering construction logistics, it’s a worthy investment. The multiplayer mode adds value, but the single-player experience is best as a casual pick. Achievement hunters will appreciate the 100+ collectibles, but don’t expect a story-driven adventure.

Storyline

On the European map inspired by the idyllic cities of Southwest Germany, you’ll find rolling hills and beautiful riversides. In Friedenberg your mission is to help design solutions for renewable energy and improve the city’s infrastructure during the campaign. Aside from these larger jobs, you’ll get assorted tasks to test out every bit of equipment that you earn. Take pride in your accomplishments as you ride through the city! On the American map you start from scratch assisted by your mentor Hape, you get bigger and more interesting jobs to grow your company and expand your fleet. You’ll also meet different clients that will challenge you. Tasks like renovating the harbor area to attract more tourists or helping the struggling inner city to recover will demand all your skills.
