Corpse-Party: if - Past End is a survival horror adventure built in RPG Maker XP. It follows a group of high school friends trapped in a haunted schoolhouse after a failed seance. The game blends puzzle solving with tense exploration as players navigate shifting corridors and avoid malevolent spirits. Most of the cast meets grim fates in the original story but this entry shifts focus to events eight years later centering on a lone survivor confronting lingering supernatural threats. The game stands out for expanding on a grim narrative legacy while leaning into the limitations of its DIY engine. Fans of the series praise its atmospheric tension and brutal difficulty curve which forces repeated playthroughs to uncover all endings. Though technically rough around the edges the story's emotional core and branching paths have earned it a cult following among fans of classic visual novel horror. Its placement between earlier entries in the franchise makes it a key piece for completists but newcomers may find the fragmented timeline challenging to parse.
In the original NEC PC-9801 game CORPSE-PARTY by KENIX SOFT, a group of high school students (Satoshi Mochida, Naomi Nakashima, Yoshiki Kishinuma, and Ayumi Shinozaki) from Kisaragi Academy, along with Satoshi's younger sister (Yuka Mochida) were dragged into a cursed schoolhouse. Later, Ayumi, Naomi, and Yuka all fell victim to the girl in red. It was only Satoshi and Yoshiki who managed to escape that nightmare. However, when Satoshi returned home, he was then killed by his dead sister's spirit. In the end, the only one who survived was Yoshiki. CORPSE-PARTY if PAST END's story begins 8 years after that event...
