About

Cosmic Carnage is a 2D competitive fighter set aboard a wrecked spaceship where eight convicts brawl for the last escape pod. Each match plays like a brutal tug-of-war, with grapples, throws, and environmental hazards like loose machinery. You punch, kick, and slam opponents while dodging debris and using the map’s narrow corridors to corner them. The controls are tight for a 90s Sega title, with combo systems that let you chain moves or unleash slow-mo finishers. Single player has you fight through randomized opponents, while multiplayer lets you test skills locally. The game’s standout is its grim, claustrophobic setting, every punch feels like it could dent the hull. Sprites are chunky and detailed for the 32X’s hardware, with some surprisingly fluid animations. Fights play out in tight spaces, forcing creative use of the environment. Though it’s easy to overlook due to its niche platform, long-time fans praise its aggressive playstyle and the sheer weirdness of its sci-fi prison setup. With no modern re-releases, it’s a buried gem for retro brawler lovers.

Storyline

In an uncharted star system, a group of prisoners en route to a celestial space mine overpower the ship's guards and take control of the ship, but during their breakout, most of the ship's controls are damaged. After days of drifting, the criminals realize that their only hope is to hijack another ship and use their distress signal to bring a military ship to their aid. They then trick the ship by ramming their own vehicle into it. The impact, however, badly damages both and destroys all but one of the escape pods, as well as killing all but four from each ship (eight in total). The few survivors fight for the final escape pod and a chance of survival.
