Cosmic Chasm is a fast-paced shooter where you pilot a ship through a network of caverns each with a central core that grows over time. You start by plotting a path on a map screen then enter each chamber to eliminate floating enemies and navigate tight spaces. Your goal is to disable barriers between caverns by destroying them with your ship’s drill advancing toward the core while managing limited shields and avoiding deadly collisions. Multiplayer adds competitive urgency as you race another pilot to reach the mission’s heart first. What makes Cosmic Chasm stand out is its balance of strategy and reflexes. You must clear enemies efficiently before progressing but rushing risks collision damage. The tension peaks when you place a bomb at the core and scramble to escape before it explodes. With only three ships to spare and enemies respawning if you fail every decision matters. Released in 1982 it’s a surprisingly tight arcade experience that still challenges players to think ahead and adapt quickly.
