CounterAttack is a chaotic space shooter where you pilot a customizable ship through waves of enemies. Play solo or team up with 1-4 players locally or 2-8 online, blasting through levels while upgrading weapons and unlocking special moves. The game lets you prioritize speed, firepower, or defense to suit your playstyle. Missions unfold in a side-scrolling format, with destructible environments and boss battles keeping the action varied. The standout here is the flexible multiplayer, especially the 4-player split-screen mode that makes for explosive couch co-op. With 40 achievements, about a third are unlocked on average, but the rarest, "Something Fishy", is earned by just 3% of players. This has kept the community guessing for years about what triggers it. The 2016 release date means it's been around a while, but the mix of local and online play still makes it a solid pick for groups.

Storyline

Earth is under attack! The Automations, humanity's own creation, have rebelled. They will stop at nothing short of the complete annihilation of their former masters. There is but one hope, the Experimental Space Fighter program. Fight solo or team up for intense co-op action, 1 - 4 player locally or 2 - 8 players online, unlock upgrades, use powerful ultimate abilities, enhance your ship the way you want, and save the Earth from annihilation.
