Crisis on the Planet of the Apes VR drops you into a simian uprising as a captured intelligent ape. You navigate crumbling military bases and war-torn landscapes using motion controls to climb, shoot, and evade human patrols. The story unfolds between two films in the franchise, with you playing a primate fighting to escape a research facility and regroup with Caesar’s faction. Gunfights, stealth sections, and environmental puzzles blend with the franchise’s iconic tension between species. Split-screen co-op lets you team up for portions of the escape. The game leans heavily on its recognizable IP while offering a niche VR experience. Though not the most graphically ambitious title, it earns points for creative use of motion mechanics in combat and traversal. Player feedback highlights the satisfying physics of throwing objects or scaling walls but notes occasional control awkwardness. With a runtime of roughly six hours, it’s a brisk ride through a familiar apocalyptic world. The 8.2/10 on Metacritic reflects solid execution over impressive design.
Set between the movies Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, An ape, known only as Specimen 139, finds themselves captured by the military and en route to a remote scientific facility in Northern California. It is year 5 of Simian Flu epidemic — 3 billion humans are dead, and society is on the brink of collapse.
