Crystal Mines by Color Dreams is a 1989 puzzle-strategy game for the Nintendo Entertainment System. You control a robot navigating labyrinthine mines under strict time limits. Collect glowing crystals while dodging falling rocks, lava bursts, and hostile creatures. Use limited explosives to blast pathways or eliminate obstacles but missteps can trigger deadly rock slides. Each level demands careful planning to meet your crystal quota and escape before time runs out. The game's tight blend of reflexes and spatial reasoning stands out. As an unlicensed title, it showcases creative design outside Nintendo's official catalog. Later levels introduce shifting layouts and tougher enemies that ramp up the tension. Players with patience and a knack for tactical thinking will find the most success. The robot's simple controls and escalating difficulty make for a satisfying challenge that holds up despite its age.
You control a CM-205 mining robot, your goal is to retrieve "Starla" crystals from various mines on a remote planet. Using the robot you need to locate your quota of crystals while avoiding the many dangers present in the mines, including lava, rock slides, and unfriendly creatures. The robot is equipped with explosives to help reach remote locations in the mine, or destroy any creatures getting in the way (be careful with explosives, you could set off a rock slide and crush the robot!) Once your crystal quota is met, quickly locate the exit and move on to the next, more challenging mine.
