About

Crystal Quest casts you as Duke Erich navigating a puzzling conflict between humans and demi-humans. Progress depends on solving two core challenges: a tile-matching memory game and a timed maze chase to escape each location. Success unlocks new areas on the world map, where crystals hide behind increasingly complex puzzles. The story unfolds through brief dialogue snippets as you cross towers and caves, with each cleared puzzle advancing the Duke’s mission to reclaim ancient artifacts. The game stands out for blending straightforward puzzle mechanics with a cheeky narrative twist. As puzzles are solved, the semi-nude demi-human characters in each zone shed clothing, adding a risqué layer to the challenge. Released in 1992 for Japan’s PC-9800 platform, it’s a relic of early RPG-puzzle hybrids with a niche aesthetic. Its simple design and escalating difficulty curve offer a brisk experience for players curious about vintage hybrid games.

Storyline

This game is set in what appears to be an alternate version of the Earth. A race of demi-humans has emerged, threatening the existence of humanity. The 15th human Emperor, named Sigmatoro J. Salzstein, calls Duke Erich B. Zweiss, and explains to him the mission: recover ancient crystals from the demi-humans, which alone can save humanity. But the Duke should be careful: who knows what challenges await for him among the demi-humans, outside of the safe walls of the capital city Berlin?.. Crystal Quest is a puzzle game with adventure elements - the Duke's top-down movement and the ability to access different locations to tackle different puzzles. The locations are marked on the world map as towers and caves; in each one of them, a sexy demi-human will offer a challenge to the good Duke.
