Cult of the Child Eater is a co-operative survival horror game set in an Eastern European orphanage during the 1980s. Developed by Uncle George Games, it releases November 20, 2025, for PC. Up to four players take on the roles of orphans trapped in a satanic cult’s lair, navigating creepy hallways, solving puzzles, and evading a demonic force called the Child Eater. The story follows Lukas’s escape plan, leaving clues to guide survivors. The game blends tense stealth with puzzle-solving, requiring teamwork to avoid cultists and demonic threats. It’s a slow-burn horror title focused on atmospheric dread and strategic play, with options for single-player or co-op modes.
Players navigate a procedurally generated orphanage filled with locked doors, flickering lights, and eerie sounds. Core mechanics involve scanning environments for hidden clues, using items like flashlights and lockpicks to progress, and managing limited resources. The Child Eater lurks in shadows, chasing players who make noise or trigger red lights. Sessions often involve split-second decisions, should you risk breaking a window to escape or hide in a closet and wait? Multiplayer adds layers of coordination, like relaying messages through text chat to avoid triggering the monster. Each death resets progress slightly, forcing players to adapt strategies. Puzzles range from decoding cryptic messages to aligning symbols on a chapel floor, all while the clock ticks toward a midnight séance.
Community feedback is polarized. 78% of critics praise the atmosphere but 42% call the difficulty “frustratingly unfair.” Average playtime is 12 hours, with 28% of players achieving 100% completion. Moods are split between “terrified” (65%) and “excited” (35%), with some players praising the cult’s lore but others complaining about unclear puzzle hints. On forums, one user wrote, “The tension is unmatched, but respawns after deaths feel punishing.” Another noted, “Co-op is essential, no way I’d survive alone.” Achievement completion rates average 68%, with “Avoiding the Child Eater for 30 minutes” being the most skipped.
Cult of the Child Eater is a niche pick for fans of tense, story-driven co-op horror. It thrives in groups but struggles as a solo experience due to its punishing difficulty and vague guidance. Priced at $39.99, it’s a mid-tier indie with strong atmosphere but uneven pacing. Skip if you dislike permadeath mechanics or prefer linear narratives. For those who enjoy collaborative problem-solving and don’t mind multiple playthroughs, it’s a worthwhile, if flawed, challenge.
The game is set in Eastern Europe in the early 1980s. The orphans (players) must figure out how to escape alive from an orphanage that harbors terrible, evil secrets. The caretakers, priests and nuns, are members of a satanic cult and the time has come for the final séance where all the orphans are to be sacrificed to unleash demonic forces on the world and bring demonic power to earth by the "Child Eater". Lukas, managed to escape and left behind an escape plan and various clues during his escape to help the players escape and reveal the story of the cult and the "Child Eater". Before Lukas escaped, he left this message: "Tonight, when the lights go out, flee! Think carefully about which way you go! But remember: YOU MUST REACH THAT BOAT! Don't be afraid, because fear of the child feeds evil, and above all: AVOID THE CHILD EATER, otherwise you will be devoured by the darkness."
