Cyberstrike is a 3D shooter where players battle in teams using customizable mechs. Each player controls one mech in fast paced combat that emphasizes teamwork and strategy. The DOS version released in 1994 brought the game to physical stores after its initial launch on the GEnie online service. Matchmaking and real time action define the experience with a focus on modular customization and coordinated play. The game pushed online multiplayer boundaries in the early 1990s. Computer Gaming World created the first Online Game of the Year award in 1993 specifically to honor Cyberstrike. With roots in Simutronics Corporation's online innovations it became a landmark title for early LAN and dial up communities.
