About

This quirky role-playing game layers puzzle mechanics onto a story about a bitter office worker turned game developer. You follow Yamada, a 36-year-old programmer trapped in a soul-crushing job, as he channels his frustrations into creating an RPG where he’s the heroic protagonist. His mundane life shifts when he becomes obsessed with his 18-year-old neighbor, Maria, eventually inserting her into his game as the damsel in distress. Combat revolves around tile-based puzzles that require arranging character stats and abilities to overcome enemies. The story meanders between absurdity and earnestness, blending workplace drudgery with fantasy tropes in a way that feels both awkward and oddly endearing. The game’s charm lies in its meta humor and the clever integration of puzzle elements into traditional RPG systems. Its quirky tone and accessible mechanics have earned it a cult following, particularly among fans of offbeat indie stories. Available on multiple platforms since 2016, it remains a niche pick for those looking to see a protagonist who’s as much a loser in real life as he is a hero in his own game.

Storyline

"Yamada-kun (Age 36) is a salaryman working as a programmer at a major game publisher. He hates his job. Deep into every night, alone in his apartment, he works on his own game: it's an RPG, and he is the hero, Brave Yamada! One day, he falls in love at first sight with his new neighbor Maria-chan (Age: 18). Yamada-kun, in an effort to nurture his real love, puts Princess Maria into his game! Will Yamada-kun and Maria-chan love each other?"
