About Days Gone

Days Gone dropped from Bend Studio in April 2019 for PlayStation 4 before hitting PC later. You play as Deacon St. John, a drifter hunting bounties while trying to find his wife in a Pacific Northwest overrun by Freakers. These zombie-like creatures swarm in massive hordes that can number in the hundreds. The game is a single-player shooter and adventure title where you ride a motorcycle across an open world to survive. It released at a time when the market was flooded with similar post-apocalyptic settings, yet this one focuses heavily on movement mechanics and managing resources while dealing with constant threats.

Gameplay

Your day starts by checking your bike's fuel gauge and tuning it up at campfires. You ride fast across forests and highways to reach mission markers or loot supply boxes. When you spot a Freaker nest, you scout the area for weak points before engaging. Combat involves switching between firearms, melee tools, and crafted explosives like molotovs or traps. You can set fire to a group of enemies or lure them into choke points where they trip over each other. The game tracks your stamina and health while you manage crafting materials found in the environment. Each session feels like a series of tense encounters followed by quiet moments of repairing your bike or sleeping at safe zones.

What Players Think

PlayPile data shows an IGDB score of 77.2 out of 100 based on 572 user ratings. The community moods are split between Hardcore and Atmospheric vibes, with a few players also citing Chaotic elements during large horde events. While some users rate it as Competitive due to the difficulty spikes, the average playtime suggests people spend significant hours just exploring the map rather than rushing through story missions. Review snippets often mention the motorcycle mechanics as a standout feature that defines the experience. Only a small portion of the community labeled it purely Atmospheric, indicating most players are focused on the action and survival aspects more than just the scenery.

PlayPile's Take

This title costs money and offers around 30 main story achievements if you decide to hunt them all. It is for people who enjoy managing vehicle maintenance while fighting hundreds of enemies in a dense forest setting. The combat gets repetitive after fifty hours, but the horde events remain chaotic enough to keep attention. You should buy this on sale since the base price feels steep for what you get. If you want a game where your bike matters as much as your gun, give it a shot. Otherwise, skip it and wait for a deeper discount.

Storyline

Deacon St. John, a former outlaw and drifter, searches for purpose in a world ravaged by a pandemic that has turned much of humanity into mindless, violent creatures called Freakers. Driven by the hope that his wife, Sarah, may still be alive, he navigates the dangers of the Pacific Northwest, facing hostile factions, freakish threats, and his own haunting memories. As he fights for survival, Deacon forms new alliances, confronts his past, and seeks answers about his wife’s fate, uncovering harsh truths about resilience and loss in a world on the edge.
